Privacy, Disclosure & Litigation in Social Work
The topics covered include preparing clinical notes, producing the clinical chart, and preparing reports that will be used in litigation. Specific reference will be made to the OCSWSSW Code of Ethics Clause 6, and Standards of Practice Principles IV and V, as well as privacy legislation (PHIPA). The webinar will be applicable to all experience levels and beneficial to members working in both the private and public sectors.

Learning Goals:
1) To improve clinical note-taking practices.
2) To understand privacy obligations to clients pursuant to PHIPA.
3) To learn about best practices when preparing a report that will be used in court and testifying as a witness.

This Webinar is FREE for Ontario Registered Social Workers (RSW), Registered Social Service Workers (RSSW) and Students of Social Work and Social Service Work Programs. Please note: If you are not an RSW, RSSW or student of these programs in Ontario, you may still attend but will be charged a nominal fee of $30.

When ASL interpretation is required, please indicate the preference in the registration form. The incorporation of ASL interpreters will depend on availability.

Speakers

Alysia Christiaen
Alysia Christiaen is a partner and the Chief Privacy Officer at Lerners LLP, and is certified by the International Association of Privacy Professionals as a Certified Information Privacy Professional in Canada. Her practice focuses on advising businesses and other organizations across Ontario on privacy issues, including preparing privacy policies, developing training programs, conducting privacy impact assessments, and managing privacy breaches. She has extensive advocacy and appellate experience, including tribunals, the Superior Court of Justice, and the Divisional Court.​ Alysia's advocacy also extends to the community. She is proud to be serving as a board member for the London Health Sciences Foundation, and as the Vice-Chair of the Parkinson's Society Southwestern Ontario board of directors. When not advocating for her clients and her community, she enjoys playing softball, watching Nascar and traveling.
