The field of addiction treatment has an extensive history of understanding individuals
struggling with the impacts of substance use as needing 'intervention.' Abstinence
based treatment models and services have primarily been the mode of access to
recovery. In this two hour training session, we will dismantle medical and abstinence
based thinking and approaches, and restructure our understandings to build capacity
to support our clients from an intersectional, client-centered, trauma informed, and
compassion focused approach.
