In this webinar, participants will be introduced to risk assessment and safety planning as two important strategies for working with survivors of intimate partner violence. Led by a cross-disciplinary team at the Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Legal Clinic, the Webinar will emphasize using trauma-informed approaches to engage survivors who may be experiencing multiple forms of oppression lives.
Specifically, the webinar will cover:
• An opening grounding exercise that you can use to centre yourself in your work with clients
• Foundational knowledge about what risk assessment is, strategies and tools for assessing risk of IPV, and factors that are important to know about for identifying "high-risk" situations
• An engaging discussion about key challenges and considerations when supporting survivors in the context of anti-Black racism, anti-Indigenous racism, and ongoing/multiple forms of inequality in Canada
Note: this is an introductory webinar and will not provide legal information or advice. It is ideally suited for participants who have some experience working with survivors of IPV.
