CBT & Comorbidities: A Unified CBT Approach to Comorbid Conditions
Cognitive behavioural therapy is the first-line treatment for most common mental health disorders. Several studies show that comorbidity is a rule rather than an exception. The most frequent comorbid conditions are anxiety, depression, ADHD, addictions and physical health conditions. Unified CBT provides a functional and formulation-based approach using pragmatic principles to treat comorbid conditions encountered in mental health practice. There are very few publications or training programs in this area crucial to practice. This is partly because the academic/specialist approach often focuses on the treatment of single conditions and consequently does not provide a practical framework for treating multiple comorbid conditions.
